At Soneva Fushi resort within the Maldives, ‘world’s largest’ overwater villas open
The resort opened what is believed to be the world’s largest one and two bedroom overwater mansions on September 25.
Exactly how big is big? The one bedroom villas are 6,286 square feet and the two bedroom villas are 9,224 square feet. While there are overwater villas with more space, these are the largest one and two bedroom villas available.
There are eight of these suites, so-called Water Rooms, that can be booked.
Since breaking one record apparently wasn’t enough, these eight villas also have glass floor panels – all the better for getting up close to corals and fish without getting on a boat – private outdoor bathtubs, wooden verandas with sun beds, Pools (in case the ocean just isn’t enough water for you), retractable roofs for star gazing from the bed, and water slides.
This aerial photo shows the villa’s pool and water slide.
Like many short breaks in the Maldives, Soneva Fushi is on a private island – in this case, Kunfunadhoo Island.
This is good news for those desperate to travel right now – the Maldives is open to tourists from any country, provided they stay on an island for the duration of their stay.
Considering the property has several restaurants (including a chocolate room), a kids’ club, tennis courts, observatory, a special reef for diving, and even a glass blowing center, there’s enough to keep you occupied without having to go anywhere go.
Because the exterior is so dramatic and colorful, the interiors keep it bright with neutral furniture and linens.
And somehow that’s not even all.
The Cinema Paradiso, the largest movie screen in the Indian Ocean, is also located in Soneva Fushi. Quarantine has never looked so glamorous.
