Itching to get away? Ebook summer season, fall flights now, journey knowledgeable says
SAN ANTONIO – With hope on the horizon, Sammy Munoz and his wife already have summer vacation on their calendar.
“We’re going to Michigan,” he said.
Let’s call it pent-up wanderlust. Travel experts say they are already seeing an increase in bookings for later this year and next.
“I think 2021, and especially this summer and beyond, could be one of the biggest travel times we’ve seen in years,” said Scott Keyes, who runs Scott’s Cheap Flights.
Although the pandemic is very uncertain, Keyes says if you are thinking about flying this year, book it.
“Instead of waiting until May or June, we encourage people to book these flights now,” he said.
Airlines are building consumer confidence and continuing to offer unprecedented flexibility should you change your mind or travel dates. However, for one-way economy flights, Keyes said the flexibility may end at the end of March unless airlines extend it.
But will airlines offer attractive fares in the face of financial turbulence?
“Oh absolutely,” Keyes said, adding that he was already seeing cheap flights.
“We saw fares from San Antonio to Belize for $ 286 round-trip and San Antonio to Hawaii for $ 316 round-trip,” he said.
As demand increases, Keyes expects airlines to add more flights and compete for leisure money.
However, expect air travel to be different. Mask mandates are expected to continue at least this year. Some overseas travel destinations may require proof of Covid-19 vaccination if they are open to travelers.
