Janet Lee Plunkett, 69, Morristown, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2020. She was born on August 7, 1951 in Shelbyville, IN, to Gene and Margarite (Thurman) Burns. Janet is a 1969 graduate of Shelbyville High School.

Upon graduation, Janet became a Legal Secretary at Adams & Cramer in Shelbyville. She married on August 14, 1971 and then moved to Muncie, IN with their love Stephen J. Plunkett, senior at Ball State University. Upon graduation, the happy couple moved to Indianapolis, where Janet started a job with Meridian Insurance. At Meridian, Janet began working in the payroll department and eventually became CEO. In the summer of 1987, Janet retired from Meridian to be a full-time home mother to her two young children. In 1990 she and her family moved to Morristown.

Janet had many interests including reading, mowing the lawn, doing soap operas including her favorite Dark Shadows, and spending time with her family and all of their animals. She also enjoyed hanging out with friends, including a weekly card club, and while at Meridian, Janet and her staff formed Woo-Woos, which provided its members with years of fun and great memories. One of her favorite pastimes was being able to travel with her family and / or friends. Not only was she allowed to travel to the United States, but also to many countries internationally, including Australia, New Zealand, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Italy, England and Mexico. She later often traveled to her favorite place, Cabo San Lucas, with several friends and family members. As a lifelong Beatles fan, she and her family even visited the Cavern Club and Abbey Road in England. She was also an avid collector of Beatles memorabilia, Pepsi-Cola, and McCoy Pottery.

Always smiling and enjoying the company of others, Janet will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her beloved husband Stephen J. Plunkett; Children: Tim (Jenna) Plunkett from Greenfield, Amanda (DeWayne) Yockey from Greenfield; Grandchildren: Samantha Yockey, Grayson Plunkett, Madaline Yockey, and Alyse Plunkett; Brothers: Ronald Burns and Ralph (Becky) Burns; and several nieces and nephews, including her eldest niece, Michelle Lovitt.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Lillian Plunkett.

The Stillinger Family Funeral Home would like to thank the Plunkett family for allowing our family to serve their families. Due to the COVID-19 riot, Janet’s family will be keeping all current services private. However, a celebration of life ministry will be held on a special day late next year.
