Linda Malys Yore says she has a library book at home about using Instagram. And yet she has a successful account with 53,400 followers.

At 67, Malys Yore is not your average travel influencer. But with bright red lipstick and a bright pink streak in her platinum blonde bob, she’s not your average 67 year old either.

Malys Yore says she has traveled her whole life. She describes her parents as “depression babies” who had multiple jobs to make sure their four children had better lives. Part of it was that they insisted on taking family vacations every year to broaden their horizons. Malys Yore credits this to stoke her wanderlust.

“My dad always taught me that you don’t get a second chance in life. I just made a kind of promise to myself that I really didn’t want any great regrets on my deathbed,” she said.

Malys Yore said she married in 1988 and quit her job as a nurse to become a full-time mom to her two daughters. Since her husband was in the medical equipment business at the time but was self-employed, Malys told Yore he could work from anywhere – so he did.

They bought an RV and never looked back

Malys Yore said she home-schooled her daughters “from birth to high school” while they traveled around Canada and the United States for six months and the remainder of the time outside of Tampa, Florida, their home base. Malys Yore believes this is how her children learned tolerance, American history, and wanderlust.

She herself says that she has learned how valuable resources are and how to live with fewer things. “You learn that you don’t need all of the things you think are necessary. You learn to live with less and appreciate it more,” she said. “What a blessing. That was a wonderful, remarkable lifestyle.”

This lifestyle came to a halt in 2014 when Malys Yore and her husband divorced after 26 years of marriage

But one of her daughters always knew that Maly’s Yore’s way of life, married or not, was unique enough to make her a true influencer.

At first, however, Malys Yore wasn’t interested.

“My daughter Victoria, who runs the Follow Me Away website, would say, ‘Mom, you are so interesting. You lead a very interesting lifestyle. There aren’t many retired travel bloggers in your age group and I think you really would like that, ‘and I poof-poof, and I just wasn’t very interested because I didn’t know much about it, “Malys Yore said.

However, at Christmas 2017, Malys Yore said Victoria gave her a website and all of the social media platforms associated with it, which gave her the kick she needed to blog for “Linda on the Run”.

Malys Yore was 65 when she started writing about travel and said her biggest fight really was just technology

“I knew quite a lot about email and Facebook. That’s all for technology. I had to learn everything from scratch,” she said, adding that taking photos was a struggle at first too.

In her opinion, this required “dedication and perseverance” to gain followers.

Their hard work has paid off, however, as Malys Yore now has over 53,000 followers and has worked with brands from Ray-Ban to Waldorf Astoria

“Representing a brand that I want to focus on for my followers is an extreme responsibility that I take very seriously,” she said. “I don’t think people understand everything that goes into being a successful influencer.”

In 2019 alone, Malys Yore visited 10 countries on three cruises. Her favorite was Russia, where she traveled from St. Petersburg to Moscow for 13 days.

“Her story was amazing, her food was amazing, her people were warm and friendly, it was not at all what I expected,” she said, speaking of Russia.

Malys Yore is an advocate of packing light – but she loves packing Instagrammable outfits and says she would never travel without her signature red lipstick

While she says she’s “a huge fan of hand washing clothes in the sink or shower at night,” you’d never guess from her Instagram account, where she often wears bright and extravagant outfits that fit perfectly with their surroundings.

“I choose my outfits based on destination. When I was on a Mediterranean cruise, I picked lighter, more colorful clothes that would fit the genre,” she said, adding that you often find yourself out of the frame of her photos Look, scarves, hats, and layers would peel off quickly for the perfect shot.

The travel blogger says she is finding ways to travel cheaply and believes others can too

This can mean eating out less or getting less manicure to save money, or catching a connecting flight and being flexible, but Malys Yore says it’s worth it.

She also says she likes booking Airbnbs with kitchens to save money on breakfast and the occasional lunch. Not only does this save money, but it is also often healthier, which Malys Yore says is a problem for her when she goes vegan.

All in all, Malys Yore just wants to inspire her followers

She hopes to inspire her followers to seize the moment.

“I consider it an honor and a blessing to be able to be an influencer and make people value my opinion,” she said. “I try to teach people the things that my father taught me: Life is short and you have to seize the moment. Don’t wait until you retire. Don’t wait for a better day. Don’t wait: use Life isn’t one Dress rehearsal, you won’t get a second chance. “
