The $550 million megayacht idea that is formed like a shark

(CNN) – Just weeks after unveiling an upcoming yacht concept that resembles a swan, Lazzarini Design Studio is pushing the boundaries even further with a brand new design shaped like a shark.

Prodigium measures an impressive 153 meters and is said to be made of carbon fiber and aluminum. The estimated market price is just under $ 550 million.

The mega yacht concept has its own port with enough space for a second yacht with a length of up to 30 meters and three swimming pools.

The exterior design shows ancient Roman influences, with two stately pillars holding the upper structure in grandiose fashion.

While an ocean robber and Roman architecture do not appear as obvious design influences that flow into a futuristic ship concept, the shark is supposed to be portrayed as the “emperor of the seas” according to the design team.

Prodigium’s closed upper level, which houses the main living area and consists of six decks, was designed to mimic the teeth and nose of a sea predator.

Both sides of the ship are to be equipped with two huge extendable slats that can serve as additional terrace space.

Prodigium with three jet engines and two electric centerline motors can achieve an estimated cruising speed of around 22 knots, according to Lazzarini Design Studio.

The luxury yacht can accommodate around 40 guests each. With three helicopter hangers and two garages with water toys on board, there’s enough to keep them entertained.

All suites are located in the hull area, along with a gym and at least one enclosed pool.

Prodigium is the second of six new concepts inspired by nature and currently being developed by the Italian designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini. The first is the swan-shaped Avanguardia concept.

While this project is still in the early stages of the design process, Lazzarini estimates that the ship would take at least 28 months to build when it is picked up from a shipyard.

This latest concept comes from the fact that the demand for superyachts continues to grow – the global fleet increased from 3,906 ships in 2009 to 5,646 in 2019, according to the Superyacht Group.

The market is projected to reach $ 10.2 billion by 2025 as more and more yachts longer than 24 meters are ordered. The designers do everything in their power to ensure that their concepts are bigger and better than those of the competition.

“The days when all big yachts looked the same are long gone,” Stewart Campbell, editor of Boat International, told CNN Travel last year.

“The owners are really pulling out all styling stops and challenging shipyards and designers to create boats that are truly unique.”

One of the most recent examples is Ultra2, a new 95-meter superyacht from T.Fotiadis Design from Berlin, which has its own security room on board. In the meantime, Red Yacht Design and Dykstra Naval Architects have jointly developed Ice Kite, an environmentally friendly superyacht concept that can be carried by a 1,700 square meter kite.
