Customers should feel safe traveling with TransPennine Express (TPE) this Christmas. Improved cleaning and additional measures as well as additional employees help at important locations.
Individuals planning to use the train during the holiday season, especially if restrictions are lifted between December 23rd and 27th, are strongly advised to book online in advance, check beforehand and allow additional travel time as the services are expected are more busy than recently.
Tickets can be purchased online through our website or through the TPExpress app, which customers can now use to pay with Apple Pay or PayPal. E-tickets are also available that allow customers to use their phone instead of a paper ticket.

After the timetable change on December 14, the train company will continue to operate around 80 percent of its connections before Covid-19. Many trains will run with additional cars to aid social distancing. However, it is likely that trains are busy, especially before and after the Christmas bubble. Customers can also book a seat reservation (which is compatible with social distancing) when reintroduced from December 14th.
Liz Collins, Interim Managing Director for TransPennine Express, said, “We ask those planning to use our trains to see friends and family over Christmas to book as soon as possible, to check and allow additional time before traveling Follow the guidelines that apply when creating the trains travel.
“Our team works extremely hard to keep the services safe, but we all help to keep ourselves and others safe by wearing face covers and regularly washing hands and using disinfectants.
“We will have additional staff in key locations over Christmas to provide additional support to anyone who needs it.”
As usual, the TPE services will end earlier on Christmas Eve and no services will be offered on Christmas Day or Boxing Day. The services will restart on December 27th, albeit with a slightly later start.
